Pulling a story together

When we write a story to talk about what our business or organization does, whether it’s a blog post about what our customers do with our products, or how our service helped a community in need, we’re taking bits and pieces of facts and anecdotes and weaving them together.

Using the word “pulling” in this respect is actually a very good description.

However, when we start this piece, it’s important that we also push.

The idea is that we start with a goal of what we want our readers to know and push them towards that goal.

Not in a salesy or arrogant way, but in a way that gently guides them to the idea we want them to understand.

Without a goal ahead of time, you’ll be pulling in all different directions.
