Metrics

An easy trap to fall into is chasing dollars.

Yes, revenue means that you’re getting paid for work that you’re doing, which means that someone values the product you produce.

But it’s a trailing indicator.

The revenue won’t show up unless you’re doing other things.

The key then is to look at your other metrics to see what may be the two or so main indicators.

Is it your website visits? The number of subscribers on your newsletter mailing list? Or how many people took advantage of your free ebook download?

When you’re finding your metrics, it’s fine to start with revenue, but work backwards until you hit on something you can work towards improving.
